More information on Coaching Skills for Leaders
Q: What was the core purpose/reason for using Institute of Executive Coaching? What was the goal?
A: The primary purpose is to improve the leader and manger capability around having performance discussions and generally improve the quality of interactions between people. We wanted to take a more skilled and humanistic approach to these discussions whilst holding people accountable for their performance.
Q: What roles/levels in the National Australia Bank utlised their services?
A: At the National Australia Bank I have used program for senior managers/directors. I also used the IECA when I was at Insurance Australia Group and there I used the program at various levels from entry level management through to senior management. The groups were set up so that sessions could be pitched appropriately.
Q: What results were achieved by utlising their services? (Individual results)
A: I had feedback from other staff and management that the participants went back to work and started to do things differently straight away. The impact of this was that others wanted to be able to acquire those skills and they too applied to do the course. We did not have to promote the program - the demand came from word of mouth. Managers started to expect all of their managers to do it as a core part of management capability development.
Q: How long have you been a client of the Institute of Executive Coaching?
A: About three years with IAG and the last six months at NAB.
Q: Any additional information which you are able to provide would be most appreciated.
A: One of my core reasons for using the IECA over other providers was the behaviour of the facilitators, coaches and staff. They walk the talk.
I know my people are in safe hands and that the behaviours I expect to see demonstrated in the workplace will be role modelled by the IECA people. I also know that the IECA uses evidenced based research and tried and tested models as a foundation of the learning. The learning outcomes are action-based results, not knowledge based. The other factor that is important as a purchaser of the IEC's services is that they are easy to deal with and reliable. They have always delivered on what they say they will deliver on, so I don't have to make excuses for them!
